Bowls News & Results

    Congratulations to both Bryn Evans & James Avery, who have both made it through to the last 16 of the Men’s County Championship. Bryn now plays away to the defending champion Jerry Rumball (Garston), whilst James is at home to play against Alan Hutchison (Bishops Stortford). The matches will be played on Monday 2nd July.

    In the East Herts Bowls League Ranson Cup last Thursday, WGC won a good overall victory by 69 – 16 against Hoddesdon Rosehill.

    On Friday in the County Team Ten competition the men won on all rinks to secure an overall 4-0 victory. The team is now in the quarter-finals were they will be at home to Baldock on Friday 13th July.

    The men’s team fell to defeat in the National Top Club on Saturday evening. Harpenden won by 4-1 with our only victory coming in the triples.

    A good day was had by all on Sunday in the club mixed fours competition. In very warm conditions and with the green bowling very fast, there was some very competitive and good spirited bowls played. Each group went down to the final matches to decide the finalists. Congratulations to Keith Ames, Gerry Gladwell, Gary Walton & Tony Seeby (who won group 1) and Stewart Parkhouse, Allan Budge, Roy Avery & Paula Martin (who won group 2). The two teams will now meet on finals day for the championship.

    Thank you to James Avery (with assistance from Roy Avery). Who organised a great event, and made it such an enjoyable day.

    On Monday both the men & women played their first match of the county league this season. The ladies suffered a heavy defeat losing to a very strong Harpenden four. The men secured a good win by winning on both rinks to gain the maximum 6 points against St Albans. Good luck to both teams in the upcoming fixtures.
