  • Last week was another busy & successful week. Well done to Rita Wilsmore, Linda Kilmister, Sally West & Joan Hair who reached the last 16 of the Ladies County Fours with a good win at Hatfield. In the Men’s County Fours Neil Sharp, Keith Ames, James Avery and Gordon Avery have also reached the last 16 by beating a Townsend four at home.
In the Men’s Team Ten a hard fought victory was secured in a hard fought match against Hertford. WGC won the Singles & Fours but lost in the Pairs & Triples. WGC won by 15 shots overall.
On Tuesday the Men played the Preliminary Round of the East Herts Bowls League Ranson Cup. The match was played against Whit Hern Bowls Club and victory was secured for WGC when both rinks won. Overall the result was WGC 59 shots, Whit Hern 25 Shots.
On Sunday we played the first of this season’s St Albans & District points league matches against Potters Bar. The ladies team unfortunately struggled on a very fast & tricky green, eventually loosing on both rinks. The Men’s team dealt with the tricky conditions much better and won on all 4 rinks taking all 80 points. A good start to the league season, especially as Potters Bar's Men won the league last season. Top rink went to David Bedford, Carl Parkhouse, Alan Cox & Colin Avery.
Good luck to both the Ladies & Men’s teams in the County Fours this week. The Men play Townsend in the County Club Championship on Friday and in the Tony Allcock Trophy the team play against Harpenden on Tuesday. Good luck to everyone involved.
We held our Bowls Taster Day on Saturday 19th May. On a lovely sunny day we had many visitors turn up and try the sport. We gained 2 new members on the day and a number more showed interest in trying bowls again. Thank you very much to Roy Avery who organised and advertised the day so well. Also thank you to everyone who helped out in the preparation and the running of the event on Saturday. Great job everyone.
